Ron Wilson has been the voice of Edmonton AM for the past five years. During
this time the show has seen many successes, all of which have contributed
to the rise of Edmonton AM’s ratings in the city. He has been a broadcaster
for more than 24 years, working as a reporter, sports commentator, news
anchor, host and producer.
Ron has a long list of accolades… too many to
mention. Early in his career he covered the sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
He was reporting from Calgary in 1988 when figure skaters Brian Orser and
Brian Boitano faced off against each other and when Elizabeth Manley won
her silver medal. He was also reporting from Seoul that summer when Ben
Johnson won and then lost his gold medal.
Wilson says his career break
came in 1978 when he was sent to cover the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton.
“The warmth of the welcome that we received in Edmonton was incredible.
Those games were the most enjoyable I ever covered. I believe that summer
in Edmonton set a standard for all Commonwealth Games held since. That
was one of the biggest reasons I made Edmonton my home twenty years later.” |
